How to install a stereo in a jeep wrangler

These speakers deliver some seriously impressive bass response - one of the main reasons they are so popular - and since the client did not want a subwoofer at this phase of the project, they were the perfect choice to give her some solid bass performance via speakers alone.

So as not to compromise on the Wrangler style, we installed all of the new speakers behind the existing factory-installed speaker grilles. A stealth installation, but a mighty upgrade in comparison to what was there before. Made of premium sound components and boasts a 2-year warranty, this was a no-brainer amplifier choice for something compact, but powerful. This camera system mounts on the spare tire mount and provides a reverse camera, large brake light, and a bright LED reverse light to help illuminate the area behind the Jeep when the vehicle is put into reverse.

At the end of the installation, some time was spent tuning the new audio system through the controls at the amplifier as well as the DDXS receiver. Not to toot our own horn, but it sounded absolutely incredible and the client was pleased with everything — especially the fact that all of the speakers were invisible behind those Jeep speaker grilles.

Audition speakers before you buy. Virtual Audio technology allows you to compare sonic characteristics between speakers so you can make a more informed shopping decision. You need to remove these so you can get your hands behind the stereo. Next, unbolt the Y-bracket from the firewall. The Y-bracket is attached to the firewall by two bolts that sit next to the windshield.

With the Y-bracket detached, you can scoot the stereo out just enough to get your wrench in behind it and remove that troublesome screw. Note that the ground wire for the stereo is also attached to this screw. Expect it to get in your way. With this last screw out of the way, you should be able to slide the stereo completely out and disconnect all the wiring connectors.

But do this carefully. The antenna connector is a bit more delicate than the others. The next thing I did was to remove the Y-bracket completely. I have no idea what this thing is for. The stock stereo is fairly big and heavy.

My guess is the Y-bracket is meant for support more than anything else. So I left it out. For me, the next step was the easiest part of all.

There was no wire cutting or splicing necessary. The existing connectors just worked. I plugged everything in, reconnected the battery, and tested that everything still worked ok. After you finish testing the stereo, disconnect the battery again just to be safe. Using the kit supplied to you by the retailer, finish mounting the stereo in the dash.

And then gently slide the instrument panel surround cover back into place and secure it with the three screws that were holding it in place. Great tut, thanks man. The factory stereo was gawd awful! Finally had enough. This was very helpful. I hope you got your VS back! I read your caution and sure enough TEN was in the old stereo!

Thanks again-. Awesome thanks!!! Thanks again. Thank you for the info.
